I,too, am American
I am an innocent black man. They send me to jail, when they feel unsafe I wonder, why they feel this way. Tomorrow, I'll be with them and when they come they will not be scared, they will not put me in jail. Then. Besides, they'll see how beautiful I am, no matter my color. I,too, am American

Today, being ‘American’ means being born here in the United States. It means being white and disapproving of immigrants. Being ‘American’ means that white people, specifically white males, should have more power or privilege. It means that immigrants, Mexicans, Iraqis, Arabs, Asians, are not ‘American’. People fail to take into account that the United States isn’t America. America is a continent. South America, North America, Central America, are all America. In my opinion, being American means living in the United States, not matter where you are from. It means having the same rights and values as any other American. ‘The American Life’, today, means that being white gives you a higher social status. Having more money means you are a better ‘American’. People come to America for a better life, which is what the american dream is. They believe that coming to America will give them more freedoms and more opportunities. However, they soon realize that is not the case. We are seen as minority, lesser people. ‘The American Life’, should mean that everyone has equal rights and opportunities, no matter what race or color you are. Sadly, this is not how it is. There are people who fought for our country, and are starving on the streets. They risked their lives, now they are trying to keep their lives. This is not the American Dream. This is not the American Life. This is not America.
Our project shows power is the ability to influence. The snake is shown in the shape of a power symbol because he has the power to turn off anyone's life in an instant, much like a power button. The prince has question marks because the snake has a confusing and influencing tone.
Irrefutable truths are things that you can not doubt or question. In the context of this image, the act of perceiving would be an irrefutable truth. It is impossible to argue that you are thinking or perceiving. However, your perception or interpretation of what you perceive can be doubted. Because you are only seeing it through your eyes, others can argue that they saw something else. Descartes explains that perception can be confused or unsure. Everyone can think, so it is irrefutable. On the contrary, the way e see things can be debated. Descartes believed that humans were solely meant for thinking. That is because we are capable of thinking.
The abstract art my group made symbolizes influence. Our abstraction ladder starts with Billy Mays, then spokesperson, actor, script, television, then publicity, then branding, ending in our abstract topic, influence. The horizontal lines were supposed to be shown going to the right, starting from the left side, where the yellow lines are. However, due to miscommunication, one of our team members drew an extra set of lines on the right side. The lines were being influenced to go in that direction because of the starting point not letting them go in that direction. The darker lines, black lines, in the middle were sort of a guide as to help you visualze what direction they were going in, without using arrows or real-world symbols. Billy Mays influenced our actions on the television by pursuading us to buy the products he advertised.
Now that I have read about Descartes and his philosophy, I have a better understanding of what this means. When he says this, he means that if we can think about or doubt our existence, then we exist. Descartes believes that our imagination is doubtable, and thinking is what are meant to do in life. We can not think in our imagination or dreams, we just do things. Our body is only capable of being in one place, whereas our mind can be somewhere completey different.
